Toddler Program (18
months - 2½ years)
Central Montessori school Toddler Program offers a
professional childcare and early childhood education program. The
program introduces the Montessori Philosophy and Methodology to
children from 18 months to 2½ years of age. Our teachers
are committed to providing quality care.
Philosophy
and aims of the toddler program:
We strive to provide a nurturing environment where
children develop physically, mentally, emotionally and intellectually.
With this in mind,
the program aims to:
Provide a happy, relaxed and stimulating environment
where children learn to share and respect the rights of others.
Provide a program that will encourage each child
to develop their individuality.
Instill an understanding and acceptance of routines
and limits.
To help children develop self-confidence, self-respect,
self-discipline and a feeling of security.
The Casa Classroom (2.5 to 6 years)
"The objects in our system are instead a
help to the child himself, he chooses what he wants for his own
use, and works with it according to his own needs, tendencies and
special interests. In this way, the objects become a means of growth."
Maria Montessori
Montessori program is based on a profound respect
for the child's personality. Children are free to work at their
own pace with materials they have chosen, either alone or with others.
As each child successfully progresses at his own pace through a
series of self-correcting manipulative exercises, they develop confidence
in their ability to understand their achievements.
Elementary (6 to 12 years)
This program is a continuation of the basic philosophy and principles
of Montessori. The children enjoy endless opportunities for mutual
help and self-directed activities. Co-operative social interaction
among children of different ages engenders feelings of friendship,
respect for the rights of others and self-confidence. They are encouraged
to achieve their full potential in all subject areas including mathematics,
language, grammar, history, geography, science, music, art, physical
education and French.
Parent Education
Montessori
school life should be an extension of family life; where conduct,
values, and principles of learning are consistent and reinforced.
A child's success at Central Montessori Schools is directly related
to the parents' understanding of what they are learning in school
and why. For this reason, Parent Education is a very important factor
in our program.
Throughout the year, you will be invited to attend
Parent Education evenings, conferences and open houses. Please make
a concerted effort to attend all school programs. A close home and
school partnership is encouraged in order to make this a rewarding
and very enjoyable experience for you and your child.
Visual Arts
Art is an integral component of the school curriculum. The Art program
is designed to guide the students to discover their own potential
for artistic expression, through the study of Art History and the
introduction of different visual art techniques. The themes selected
serve to complement and reinforce the academic program. This fosters
creative thinking as well as their love and understanding of the
arts.
Physical Education
The importance of physical fitness is recognized and encouraged.
Under the direction of a fully accredited fitness instructor we
offer our students opportunities for movement through dance, drama
and sports. Activities take place within the fully enclosed playground
or in our well-equipped gymnasium.
French
The Casa French program is based on an oral comprehension of the
language. The children learn vocabulary and conversational skills
while singing songs and playing games. In the Elementary program,
daily French classes take a practical approach. Allowing the children
to speak, read and write French. There is a strong focus on cultural
experiences to complement these studies.
After School Programs
A variety of extra curricular activities are also offered during
lunch break or after school by experience experts in their field.:
Creative Movement and ballet
Drawing and Painting
Chess Lessons
Swimming
Fun Ball
Piano Lessons
Skating Lessons
Field Trips
Field Trips
Field trips are the most popular learning experience for the children
and their parents at CMS. A variety of farms are visited throughout
the academic year and during summer camp to help children explore
the natural environment. This program follows the concept of Earth
Kinder. A Montessori philosophy which emphasizes the natural processes
and harmonious living on our planet. We also expose our children
to museums and places of historical interest.
Circle Time
Circle time
allows children to develop their listening skills, self-confidence
and exposure to current events. This is an enjoyable time for children
as they share ideas and express their thoughts through stories,
poems, songs and finger plays. Weekly themes are also discussed
at circle time giving children an opportunity to learn more about
a particular topic of interest.
